Communication Design Engineer
Serve as a communications design engineer in the public works branch, providing expert technical advice for the design and construction of existing military facilities.
The Opportunity
Serve as a communications design engineer in the public works branch in support of the Marine Corps. Maintain responsibility for providing expert-level technical advice on the planning and programming requirements for the design and construction of existing facilities repair and alteration projects.
Assist the Basing Action Planning Team in determining the scope of work for Initial Operational Capability and Final Operational Capability projects. Perform site investigations, evaluate conditions of existing systems, and provide reports and recommendations in correcting deficiencies.
Plan and direct execution of communications designs for various types of facilities including structures unique to military use that are of considerable size, complexity, and extent. Develop preliminary and final communications designs, drawings, analyses, technical specifications, cost estimates, and construction milestones for the construction, major renovation, repair, and maintenance of various facilities.
Review design documents produced by other service engineering teams or private Architect-Engineer firms. Coordinate with architects and engineers in other specialized fields concerning work in architectural, electrical, civil, mechanical, communications, and electronic security systems, and environmental and industrial hygiene requirements.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in the communications engineering field.
- 3+ years of experience with Information and Communications Technology (ICT) design.
- 3+ years of experience providing expert-level communications engineering guidance in state-of-the-art designs, engineering, and scientific concepts, and modern technologies.
- Knowledge of communications engineering concepts, principles, and practices for the full range of duties concerned with the planning, design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of facilities normally found on military installations.
- Knowledge of communications systems planning and execution requirements for upgrading diverse, highly complex projects, including headquarters buildings, large automotive maintenance shops, aviation maintenance shops, community centers, education centers, or dining facilities.
- Knowledge of engineering fields, including architectural, electrical, civil, mechanical, communications, environmental, and electronic security systems.
- Knowledge of the use of computer software, email, spreadsheets, database management, word processing, and the internet, including computer-aided design and drafting techniques.
- HS diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with working on military, municipal, federal, state, industrial, or manufacturing design projects.
- Experience with facilities planning.
- Experience with Facility Related Control Systems (FRCS), including the design, integration, and communication requirements for Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
- Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI) and Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) Certifications.

Compensation
The projected compensation range for this position is $61,900.00 to $141,000.00 (annualized USD).
Clearance
Secret clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation.
