Community Relations and Bilateral Engagement Coordinator
Serves as a subject-matter expert and liaison for community relations and bilateral engagement initiatives supporting senior leadership in Okinawa.
The Opportunity
Serves as a subject-matter expert and primary liaison for community relations and bilateral engagement initiatives supporting senior leadership. Plans, manages, and executes meetings and engagements with local officials, mayors, prefectural leaders, community organizations, defense associations, and civic leaders. Works leading community outreach efforts, identifying and analyzing community concerns, and providing actionable insights to senior leadership. Prepares comprehensive bilingual briefing materials, talking points, and engagement read-ahead packages, and delivers high-quality interpretation and translation support. Advises on cultural considerations, diplomatic protocol, and local political dynamics, providing critical insight into factors influencing United States military operations. Supports senior leader engagements, ensures strategic alignment with regional security priorities, and contributes to the effective execution of bilateral coordination and alliance initiatives.
Requirements
You Have
- Experience with local prefectural and national political structures in Japan
- Knowledge of local political, community, and defense dynamics in Japan, including in a critical region
- Knowledge of regional security strategies and defense posture in a critical region
- Knowledge of United States-Japan alliance issues and bilateral coordination mechanisms
- Knowledge of Status of Forces Agreement and related agreements
- Ability to brief senior leader audiences
- Ability to translate Japanese to English and English to Japanese in reading, writing, and speaking
- Secret clearance
- HS diploma or GED
Nice If You Have
- Experience supporting United States military commands in Japan
- Experience engaging with Japanese government or defense organizations
- Experience supporting General Officer engagements
- Possession of excellent interpersonal and diplomatic communication skills

Work Model
