Operates forklifts and other equipment to load, unload, store, and ship perishable and semi-perishable subsistence items in a commissary warehouse.

Assists in loading and unloading of products to and from trucks, containers and other subsistence conveyances using forklifts, manual and mechanized pallet jacks, or other approved Material Handling Equipment.

Participates in inventories.

Performs a wide range of warehousing tasks to include receiving, storing, selecting and shipping perishable and semi-perishables subsistence.

Checks, assembles and processes documents and routes subsistence and equipment to correct locations or storage areas.

Prepares shipping and inventory documents with required data for manual or automated inventory systems.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. This includes but is not limited to the ability to perform common Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) tasks including receiving general guidance on where and how to identify items to be received, stored, and maintained. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Uses moderate physical effort while performing the various maneuvers involved in the operation of forklift and other material handling equipment. Is subject to strain caused by vibration of the machine. Frequently lifts and carries merchandise and supplies that weighs up to, but seldom in excess of 70 pounds. Help is normally available for weights in excess of 70 pounds. Performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions.

Work Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside. Works in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Works in bad weather such as outside areas and open docks. The work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is performed in close quarters in warehouse aisles and docks. Is exposed to injury through careless storing and stacking of material. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises while performing the job.
