Science Advisor
Advises the Commander and staff on technical developments and science maturation for future naval warfare.
You will advise the Commander and staff on technical developments relating to the future of naval warfare including providing expert advice regarding the plausibility of science and technology maturation.
You will identify operational technology needs that are relevant to major joint, Navy, or Marine Corps command.
You will assist and advise the host Commander and staff in the identification of Warfighting Capability Gaps that have a critical impact on combat readiness.
You will identify potential improvements to existing equipment or the development of new concepts, including command ship technologies and their integration, C4I systems; integrated air and missile defense, long range maritime fires.
You will monitor current programs being conducted for tactical and data gathering purposes under the cognizance of the Commander and advise the military staff on the adequacy of scientific talent assigned to each program.
Requirements
Basic Requirements:
- Degree in biological sciences, engineering, physical sciences, operations research, mathematics, or computer science (see education links in posting).
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 level in the federal service or equivalent.
- Specialized experience must include a broad spectrum of Naval Warfare areas or systems, gained through operational R&D or acquisition program experience.
- Time-in-grade requirements for GS candidates (one year at next lower grade).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with senior-level briefings and negotiations concerning prioritization of technological requirements.
