Serves as the Forensic Healthcare Program Medical Director and Program Manager to ensure patients within the Military Health System receive proper forensic nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct targeted medical forensic healthcare examinations for patients reporting sexual assault or other unwanted physical violence.
  • Ensure a high level of health care for patients with chronic and acute illnesses and injury.
  • Participate in patient education to promote the effective involvement of patients in their care.
  • Oversee the process for approval of travel in support of the Forensic Healthcare team.
  • Develop and present formal and informal briefings and presentations at multiple levels, providing leadership, mentoring, and consultation to the MTF and installation leadership.
  • Provide educational services to Sexual Assault Response Program (SAPR), Sexual Assault Response Coordinators (SARCs), Victim Advocates (VA), and Family Advocacy Program (SAP).
  • Provide Emergency Nursing care to Emergency Department patients when not performing Forensic Nursing responsibilities.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education and Licensure:

  • A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
  • Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
  • Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.
  • Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.

Experience:

  • Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes forensic nursing care to victims or suspected perpetrators of sexual assault, documenting patient care, and educating patient or staff on topics relating to sexual assault. (Note: For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneβ€”no substitution of education for experience is permitted.)
