Postdoc, Information Theory, Probability, and Statistics Unit
Conduct original research in information theory, probability, and statistics, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals.
The position
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Researcher to join our unit. The successful candidate will work closely with the head of the unit and team to conduct research, publish findings, and contribute to the advancement of our research agenda. The work is interdisciplinary and spans various fields: Information Theory, Probability Theory, Statistics, Learning Theory, Biology, etc.
The main areas of interest include (but are not restricted to) the following:
- information measures;
- concentration of measure;
- concentration of measure in non-classical settings (non iid);
- information-theoretic bounds on the generalisation error of learning algorithms;
- estimation theory;
- hypothesis testing in non-classical settings;
- estimation and prediction in biological settings;
- properties (contraction) of Markovian and non-Markovian operators on probability measures;
- variational characterisations of information measures;
- computational neuroscience.
Responsibilities
- Conduct original research in the areas described above
- Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and lead project initiatives
Requirements
Qualifications
(Required)
- PhD in Mathematics or related fields
- Strong research skills and a solid track record of publications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
(Preferred)
- Knowledge of Measure Theory and Functional Analysis is appreciated.

Additional Info
Employment Term
Full-time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. Contract initially with 6-month probationary period (inclusive). This contract may be renewed by taking into consideration the performance, conduct, and behavior of the Employee and OIST's financial and other circumstances.

9:00-17:30 (Discretionary)
Holidays
Saturday, Sunday, National holidays, and Year-end and New Year holidays (Dec. 29 – Jan. 3)
Leave
Annual Paid Leave, Summer Leave, Sick Leave, and Special Leave
Overtime work hours
Discretionary Working Hours System: In the discretionary labor system for specialized work, the employee shall be deemed to have worked 7 hours 30 minutes per day.
